Home Office Ergonomics

July 28, 2020 @ 11:30 am - 12:00 pm

How to optimize the set-up of your home workstation.

Beginning in mid-March of this year, the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic were felt in central Ohio.  With very little warning, thousands of university faculty and staff members were told they would be working from home for the foreseeable future.

While working from home has many benefits, there are some drawbacks (new “co-workers”, lots of distractions, etc.).  One less frequently thought of drawback is the set-up of the work area.  In the office, most people have adjustable chairs, “proper” desks, and a computer designed for long-term continuous use.  There are also a number of university resources to help with ergonomics if they need it.

When told that they would be working from home, most people packed up their laptop, set it down on the kitchen table, and went to work. While workable in the short-term, this is not sustainable over time. These less than ideal set-ups can lead to discomfort, pain, and sometimes even injury.

This webinar will give you a step-by-step process on how to improve the set-up of your home office.  At the end of it, you will know where to place your keyboard to eliminate wrist pain, how to best position your computer to avoid eyestrain, ways to improve your sitting posture and much more!
